Au centre de la Tunisie. Le réalisateur suit de près, trois années durant, quatre jeunes gens liés par l’amitié et le souci, diversement exprimé, de faire face à la situation post- révolutionnaire de leur pays. Alternent ainsi, selon le cas, l’aspiration obstinée de poursuivre la révolution, la désillusion face à la dure et implacable réalité sociale, l’engagement dans l’action artistique et le désir d’émigrer sans plus revenir. En filigrane, le documentaire décrit, avec humilité et une discrète sympathie pour ses personnages, et à travers leurs désirs, une chaotique transition démocratique dont les fruits, en matière d’égalité sociale et de dignité, se font toujours attendre.
In the heart of Tunisia. Over three years, the director closely follows four young people bound by friendship and, each in their own way, by the need to come to terms with their country’s post-revolutionary situation. Their stories weave together contrasting states: a stubborn determination to carry the revolution forward, disillusionment in the face of a harsh and unrelenting social reality, a commitment to artistic action, and the desire to emigrate with no intention of returning. Running through it all, the documentary traces – with humility and quiet sympathy for its subjects, and through the lens of their aspirations – a chaotic democratic transition whose fruits, in terms of social equality and dignity, remain as elusive as ever.
