La recherche porte sur les différentes représentations de Jamila au cinéma, ainsi que sur sa présence et sa mise en valeur dans les années 1960 et 1970 au sein de la revue égyptienne Al-Hilal, importante publication culturelle du monde arabe. Le projet soulève la question de ce que signifie incarner le rôle d’une combattante de la liberté, et de devenir une icône.
Video based on a performance that originated from an investigation into Jamila Bouhired, an Algerian woman fighting for freedom. The research focuses on the different representations of Jamila in cinema, and her integration and promotion during the 1960s and 1970s in the Egyptian magazine Al-Hilal, which was an important Arab cultural magazine. The project raises the question of what it means to play the role of a freedom fighter, and to become an icon.
