Entre les guerres, dresse par petites touches le portrait d’une famille de pêcheurs beyrouthine qui survit au jour le jour dans la débrouille et l’humour. Les liens forts entre père, mère et fils sont mis à l’épreuve par les discordes idéologiques. La famille Alayli est à mes yeux un concentré de ce pays.
Since the fall of 2019, the Alayli family has been grappling with the economic and social crisis sweeping Lebanon. In Between Wars paints a portrait, in small, subtle strokes, of a family of fishermen in Beirut who survive day to day through resourcefulness and humor. The strong bonds between father, mother, and son are put to the test by ideological differences. In my view, the Alayli family is a microcosm of this country.
