« Le syndrome d’hospitalisme touche les bébés lorsqu’ils sont hospitalisés loin de leur mère et peut entraîner la mort : c’est le sujet de ce film. Mabel Itzcovich a choisi d’aborder le problème à la première personne, en tant que femme et mère. Avec une forme concise et bouleversante, une photographie contrastée et austère, la réalisatrice évoque d’abord son intérêt pour les mères qui se rendent à l’hôpital, puis pour leurs enfants, et enfin sa découverte de cette autre maladie qui s’ajoutait à celle qui avait provoqué l’hospitalisation. C’est alors que les raisons sont évoquées : un système médical déshumanisé, auquel s’ajoutent les inégalités économiques. » Fernando Martín Peña

Mabel Itzcovich has chosen to approach the issue in the first person, as both a woman and a mother. Through a concise yet deeply moving form, and with stark, high-contrast cinematography, the director first reflects on her interest in mothers coming to the hospital, then in their children, and finally in her discovery of this second illness, which compounded the condition that had led to their hospitalization.
