Nestler dresse un monument à l’engagement des ouvriers européens qui ont donné leur vie pour la démocratie et la liberté et qui ont continué leur combat une fois revenus dans leurs pays d’origine, en défiant d’innombrables persécutions.
Documentary dedicated to the memory of the volunteers who fought in the International Brigades to defend the Spanish Republic during the Civil War (1936-1939). The film is more than a nostalgic reminiscence, it prolongs the ethical and political choices of its characters in the present of Spanish fascism (1973) and describes the terrifying apparatus of repression of Franco’s Spain. Nestler builds a monument to the commitment of European workers who gave their lives for democracy and liberty and who continued their struggle after returning to their native countries, defying innumerable persecutions.
