Synopsis

En 1935, le grand-père du réalisateur quitte la France pour s’installer à Dakar, au Sénégal, qui est alors une colonie française. Avec sa famille, il fait construire un hôtel, La Croix du Sud, qui devient rapidement un lieu mythique d’Afrique de l’Ouest. Peu de temps après la décolonisation (1960), et suite à la mort du grand-père, toute la famille abandonne le Sénégal et rentre en France.
En questionnant la mémoire familiale, et en renouant des liens avec les employés sénégalais qui étaient proches de sa famille, le réalisateur explore et confronte la mémoire commune de deux pays…

In 1935, the filmmaker’s grandfather left France to settle in Dakar, Senegal, which was then a French colony. With his family, he built a hotel, La Croix du Sud, which quickly became a legendary spot in West Africa. Shortly after decolonization (1960), and following the grandfather’s death, the entire family left Senegal and returned to France.
By questioning family memories and reconnecting with the Senegalese employees who were close to his family, the filmmaker explores and confronts the shared memory of the two countries…
