Synopsis

Commissioned by the city council, Reis’ first film is an urban symphony to Porto’s hustle and bustle that tracks local workers’ movements across the city. From these images of everyday life, more abstract motifs emerge – linked to nature, buildings and colours – that herald the visual experimentation which defines Reis’ subsequent films. This visual essay gathers sequences filmed between the river and downtown, commented with the reading of poems by authors like Vasco de Lima Couto, Egito Gonçalves, Rosalía de Castro, Pedro Homem de Mello, Fernando Pessoa, and António Reis himself.
