Synopsis

In a work that blends documentary and fiction, a small cinema crew enters the Amazon to shoot a movie with huge formal freedom. A thread of plot: a trucker, Tião Brasil Grande, meets a young hooker, Iracema. Together, they travel across Amazon, then a national security region under strict military control, acting with residents and interacting with other performers. The trip – and the film as a whole – is a pretext for showing the problems of the region: deforestation, precarious working and health conditions, peasants being sold off, contrary to the government’s delirious propaganda, which boasts the building of the Transamazônica Highway and its supposed effects on the country’s expansion.
