Günter Peter Straschek appartient à une génération de cinéastes qui, dans les années 1960, s’interrogeaient sur la manière dont leur esthétique cinématographique pouvait s’inscrire dans les combats de la nouvelle gauche. Dans ce film, il traite de l’écart entre la théorie des intellectuels bourgeois de la (nouvelle) gauche et la vie quotidienne du prolétariat. Ce que Straschek vise, avec un sens de l’humour hérité du Bertolt Brecht le plus féroce, c’est ce fossé qui s’est creusé avec l’écrasement du mouvement ouvrier par le fascisme. Avec son pamphlet satyrique il s’en prend frontalement à l’intellectuel de ce temps des marchés et marchandises.
Günter Peter Straschek belongs to that generation of filmmakers who in the sixties questioned the way in which their cinematic aesthetics could integrate into the struggles of the New Left. In this film, he deals with the gap between the theory of the bourgeois intellectuals of the (new) left and the daily life of the proletariat. Straschek’s aim, with a sense of humour inherited from Bertolt Brecht at his most ferocious, is the gap that emerged with the crushing of the workers’ movement by fascism. With his satyrical pamphlet he frontally attacks the intellectual at this time of markets and merchandise.
